On Jobs and Business

My entire career has been spent in private business, specifically commercial real estate brokerage, construction, and development. On a daily basis I work to bring people with divergent interests together, to craft transactions that benefit all parties.

I understand what it takes to be a cog in the wheel of our free enterprise system, and believe in it deeply. It is the engine that drives our world. So it is that I believe quality of life begins with a job, and that everyone who can support him or herself should do so. But critical to that concept is that if a person works at a full time job, at the very least that person should be paid enough to make ends meet. We, as a country, need to be active in protecting jobs, and supporting the health and growth of local business.

I as a stay-at-home mother would like to see more women like myself get some extra financial help from the government.

Not everyone can handle the stresses of working in a corporate office or dealing with the public.

I am much more comfortable staying at home to take care of my house and my family.

Money gets really tight though with my husband being the only one working and it depresses me to think that I might not even be able to buy my children winter clothes.

I would like to see more low and middle class stay-at-home mothers like myself receive some kind of monthly income check to help with other things besides groceries or house bills.

Not sure it’s appropriate to be posting this here but I cannot believe the blurb written here by Brandy Fawcett. While I agree that it’s sad that middle-class women almost no longer have a choice but to work, I cannot believe that anyone would write that. You chose to get married, you chose to have children, and because you choose not to work, you would like taxpayers (like myself) to send you a check every month?? Perhaps you need to go read JFK’s famous words: “And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.”

I agree completely with Jennifer - it is the sentiment expressed by Brandi that fuels fire for the Republicans…the purpose of our government is not to take care of us. That is OUR responsibility as citizens of this country. Our government ensures that we remain free and able to realize the American dream. This dream is NOT guaranteed…we each must work and strive to realize it. That requires making wise choices that fit our circumstances.

Education is a social process. Education is growth. Education is, not a preparation for life; education is life itself.
