The Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg provides civic education which, as former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan of Texas said, keeps our community from becoming “a collection of interest groups: city against suburb, region against region, individual against individual, each seeking to satisfy private wants.” Harry Taylor is “thrilled that the members of the Black Caucus believe I see every human being as important. This significant support for my Congressional campaign against Sue Myrick recognizes my friendships in the African American community and my years of working with disadvantaged youth.” According to Dwayne Collins, Chairma of the Black Political Caucus, the organization chose to support Taylor’s candidacy over his challenger because of Taylor’s stand on human rights. “It was obvious, beyond the shadow of a doubt, to the members of the Black Poltitical Caucus to endorse Harry Taylor because we feel his philosophy and view points on the issues are the best of any candidate in Mecklenburg County, and particularly for the African American community in Mecklenburg County,” Collins says.
